Percolation Tests

Percolation test is carried out on your land to find out if the ground is suitable for drainage field.

Stage 1

Discuss with the customer where their preferred area is to excavate the trial holes

Stage 2

Excavate a minimum of 2 trial holes bearing in mind the invert depth of the outlet of the system they would like. Fill the holes with water and allow it to seep away overnight.

Stage 3

Next day Insert the measuring pins inside the excavation and fill each hole a minimum of 3 times per hole and then time the distance it takes in seconds for the water to dissipate from 75% to 25% full level.

Find out if the ground is suitable

A percolation test is a way of finding out if the land that you own is suitable for a drainage field. But first you must check the depth of the water table. A percolation test cannot be carried out if it has been raining too much or too little. You must excavate a minimum of two holes because you need to work out the average VP. You then calculate the number of people by the average VP by 0.25 for a septic tank 0.20 for a treatment plant this will give you the meters cubed. You must then turn the cubic meters into linear meters by dividing it by the trench width.

You must bear in mind when citing the trail holes for the drainage field it must be 15 meters from a dwelling, 10 meters from a water course and 50meters from a borehole/well.

Extreme weather conditions must be avoided when testing.

Contact

Give us a call or click on ‘free estimate’ to get the ball rolling

02.

Free site visit

One of our experienced team will make a free site visit to discuss with you where best to site the trial holes

03.

Excavation and test

We arrive at your property, excavate the trial holes, test each hole and work out the drainage field size

04.

Building control

Building control will need a copy of the percolation test results combined with a site visit and eventual sign off once the drainage field has been installed.
